| Shopping FAQ Topic List General Q: What is the difference between your BrakePlanet products and the other brands you offer? A: We strive to offer our customers a choice between our BrakePlanet branded product line and select branded products from leading manufacturers. Our BrakePlanet Slotted and Cross-Drilled Rotors are manufactured in-house, in our state-of-the-art, CNC machining operation. Our OEM - Plain Rotors and Brake Pads are sourced directly from manufacturers who offer the finest quality in aftermarket friction braking products. Also, our BrakePlanet brand affords us the opportunity to offer great pricing that we can pass on to our customers. In addition to BrakePlanet products, we offer additional name brands that are the highest quality in the industry, thereby providing our customers with great selection and quality, whatever their braking needs. Expect several new product introductions from us over the upcoming months! [ top ] Automotive Rotors Q: Do you offer original equipment (OEM) replacement rotors? A: Yes, we offer a complete line of original equipment (OEM) replacement rotors for nearly every vehicle on the road today. We also offer a variety of performance rotors that provide excellent braking power and look great as well. Q: What is the difference between plain OEM replacement rotors and performance rotors? A: BrakePlanet Performance Rotors meet or exceed all OEM vehicle application specifications. They install easily, replacing OEM rotors without any modifications. The cross-drilled design degasses brake pads and decreases rotor heat, making the braking system more effective. The slot designs are carefully milled to deglaze brake pads, reduce fade and minimize brake dust within the braking system. Our free custom silver zinc plating formula helps prevent rusting and enhances the appearance of any vehicle. Depending on application, all rotors are G3000 or better. All manufacturing operations are ISO and/or TUV certified. If you are still unsure which rotor is best for you, or have specific questions regarding your vehicle, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to further assist you. [ top ] Automotive Brake Pads Q: What is the difference between semi-metallic and ceramic brake pads? Which would you recommend for my car / truck / SUV? A: In recent years, car manufacturers have increased the number of ceramic-based disc pads it uses on its cars. Today, approximately 33% of new cars use ceramic pads while semi-metallic still represents the largest category. Ceramic-based pads offer drivers the capability of handling today’s high brake temperatures with less heat fade, faster recovery times, and less wear on both the pads and rotors. They also significantly reduce brake noise and squeal. Another benefit associated with ceramic brakes is the absence of visible brake dust. Despite the added benefits of ceramic, most cars today still come with semi-metallic pads and most drivers continue to replace their pads with semi-metallic formulations. Other than for specific high performance vehicle types, or for high performance driving styles, semi-metallic pads like ours offer many of the same benefits as ceramic under most driving conditions. For more information regarding which pads are right for you, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to further assist you. [ top ] Lifetime Warranty Q: What is BrakePlanet's Lifetime Warranty? A: Unlike most companies that offer 14-30 day warranties, BrakePlanet stands behind their work with a guaranteed lifetime warranty on BrakePlanet branded rotors for manufacturer defects including materials and workmanship defects. Examples of defects may include rotor warping and cracking. The warranty does not cover race, track day or similar use. Failure to install by a qualified and certified mechanic, and abide by commercially accepted installation instructions invalidates warranty. Failure to install new brake pads at time of new rotor installation invalidates warranty. For all other products, BrakePlanet offers you the manufacturer's warranty. [ top ] Motorcycle & ATV Brake Pads Q: What is the difference between Organic and Sintered, and what would you recommend for my motorcycle / ATV? A: Organic pads are made from organic fibers such as Dupont® Kevlar®. These pads are ideal for general purpose street / sport use; suitable for all modern sport bikes, cruisers, and tourers. Pads offer incredible brake “feel”, noise-free braking, minimal brake dust and extend rotor life. Sintered pads are great for any rider wanting optimal stopping power in all weather conditions, including street / sport bikes, dirt bikes and ATVs. They are particularly long-lasting and highly durable. They are engineered from sintered copper alloys. If you are still unsure which material type is best for you, or have specific questions regarding your motorcycle or ATV, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to further assist you. Q: Do you offer a full line of brake pads? A: Yes, we stock more than 400 part numbers in organic and sintered materials for thousands of motorcycles, ATVs, and even snowmobiles. Our motorcycle inventory includes pads and rotors for nearly every make and model – V-Twins, Metrics and more – dating back ten, twenty and sometimes even thirty years! [ top ] Motorcycle & ATV Helmets Q: Are your helmets DOT-certified? A: Our helmets are at least DOT-certified, which means that they are legal and safe for street use throughout the United States. We also have helmets that are SNELL-certified, which is the highest rating that helmets can be awarded. Q: Do you offer a full line of helmets? A: Yes, we offer a full line of helmets including full face, open face (touring), MX (off-road) and shorty helmets. All our helmets come in a full range of sizes from S to XL. Many helmets are also offered in XS and XXL sizes. Q: How do I know my helmet size? A: To measure your correct helmet size, first wrap a tape measure around the circumference of your head, one inch above the eyes and ears, and at the point on the back of your head that will give you the largest reading. Take several measurements, to make sure you have the largest one. Due to varying shapes, heads that are apparently the same size when measured by a tape may not necessarily fit the same size helmet. Next, find your helmet size in the chart below: Adult Helmet Sizing:
Youth Helmet Sizing:
If you are in between sizes, consider stepping up to the next largest size.
Always remember that individual head sizes vary, and that helmets must always
be properly fitted to wearer. |
